The Bangladesh Postal Department has left worth thousands of crores taka of investment, land and infrastructure of the government treasury. But it faces Tk. 700 crores of losses every year. In such a situation, the State Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak wants to handover this sector under the private sector to make the postal department a profitable institution by ensuring the maximum use of the existing resources of the postal department. At the same time, he expressed the opinion that the vehicles and land owned by the postal department will be given to the private sector to reduce the losses.

The state minister said this at the 'expansion of postal department's e-commerce service and functionalization of chiller chamber and cross-border e-commerce' organized at Dak Bhaban in the capital on Tuesday.

In the meeting, State Minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak wanted to know the reason for the car lying down from the Director of Postal Department, Abu Taleb. But as the officer could not answer, the DG asked him to leave the meeting.
The state minister said that apart from all the cars and service points, all the places of the postal department will also be leased to private companies. There will be an agreement in this regard with private institutions by this June.

He said that if he could not account for the information, he left the meeting and brought it. All information must be presented within the next 1 hour during the meeting.

The state minister said, 'The postal department has a total of 462 vehicles. 135 of them are inactive. If these vehicles are not repaired within seven days, they will be left in the hands of private companies. We will also give the lands of the postal department to the private sector if necessary. They will pay us part of the dividend.'

It was informed in the discussion meeting that due to inefficiency and mismanagement, service delivery vehicles worth crores of taka of the postal department are lying unused. Smart service points, even the valuable land of the postal department across the country, could not be utilized. Stating that strict action will be taken against the accused to save the postal department in this situation, the state minister said, 'It will not be possible to sit idle and take salary. Get it fixed by June 30. Otherwise, action will be taken.'

Officials of the Postal Department, Directorate of Posts, representatives of Courier Service Association, representatives of E-Commerce Association and representatives of public and private sectors related to logistics were present in the exchange meeting.

In the meeting, the state minister said that arrangements will be made for door-to-door delivery of passports through the post office. I will talk to the passport department about this. If necessary, I will also tell the Prime Minister about this.

Not just privatization of services; Purification campaign will also continue against officials. The state minister said that he will not ask for any money for the postal department in the coming budget. He said that the postal department is immersed in irregularities, mismanagement and corruption. The action will start from July.
